Kansas mandatory workplace labor law poster revisions

The State of Kansas recently updated its Unemployment Insurance poster for 2025. Specifically, the Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) issued a revised and redesigned version of the notice that now includes an explanation of eligibility criteria and information on updated contact methods available to existing and displaced workers. Kansas employers need to replace the prior version of the poster with the updated notice as soon as possible by referring to the Kansas compliance poster services.

What Changed on the Kansas Unemployment Insurance Poster?

The newly redesigned poster now includes a section explaining eligibility for unemployment benefits. Unemployment insurance benefits partially replace an eligible displaced worker’s wages when they lose their job through no fault of their own. According to the revised notice, unemployed Kansas workers are only eligible for benefits if they are “able to work, available to work, and seeking suitable employment.”  Applicants for unemployment compensation must also possess an adequate work history and meet certain wage requirements. According to the KDOL, unemployed individuals must meet weekly job search requirements and reemployment services activities in order to qualify for benefits.

Additionally, the updated notice provides a website for claims and two phone numbers for the KDOL Contact Center. The Kansas’ government website allows users to create an account, log in to an existing account, apply for benefits, and converse with a virtual assistant about unemployment benefits-related questions.

Other Required Kansas Labor Law Posters

In addition to the updated Unemployment Insurance notice, employers in Kansas are required to post other essential labor law notices in areas frequently accessed by employees during their workday. These notices form a part of the complete Kansas labor law posters, which encompass state-specific posting obligations in Kansas, including the following:

  • Workers’ Compensation
  • Equal Opportunity in Employment
  • Public Accommodations (for businesses open to the public)
  • No Smoking
  • Human Trafficking (two different posters)

Mandatory Federal Labor Law Posters for Kansas Businesses

Employers must also display required federal posters. These posters include but are not limited to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s (EEOC’s) “Know Your Rights” poster, OSHA’s “It’s the Law!” notice, the Employee Polygraph Protection Act (EPPA) notice, the Federal Minimum Wage notice, and the Uniformed Services Employment & Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) notice. Employers with 50 or more employees on payroll within a 75-mile radius, most public and private schools, and government agencies must also post a federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) notice.

Employer Takeaways

Employers in Kansas must post the recently revised KDOL notice and any other state or federal required posters where employees can access them during the workday as required. The prior version of the poster should be removed if it has already been posted. As with any labor law notice, businesses should retain the previous version for up to three years as proof of prior posting compliance.
