Recently, Louisiana Works (formerly known as the Louisiana Workforce Commission) published a newly revised Unemployment Insurance (UI) poster for all affected employers. The updated version significantly changes the definition of job searching, which affects unemployment insurance eligibility and requirements under Act 151, passed during the 2025 Regular Legislative Session. Louisiana employers must update their labor law posters to reflect the revised notice.
What Changed on the Latest Version of the Unemployment Insurance Poster?
The updated UI notice now includes an increase in the number of required weekly work search activities for individuals claiming unemployment benefits. Specifically, for all new claims filed on or after January 4th, 2026, claimants must complete five valid work search actions each week. This is an increase from the previous requirement of three valid work search actions each week. Valid work search activities include:
- applying for jobs,
- attending interviews,
- updating a resume, or
- participating in job search or training programs.
Have Previous Penalties for Submitting False Statements and Records Changed?
Even though the number of required work search activities has changed, the possible penalties for making false claims, which were updated in early 2025, have not been updated. In addition to benefits disqualification and repayment obligations, individuals who commit fraud may also face criminal charges. Each false statement or omission is considered a separate offense. Potential penalties include:
- Fines from $50 to $1,000
- Jail time ranging from 30 to 90 days
- Or both, depending on the court’s decision
Employer Takeaways
All Louisiana employers with one or more employees should replace the prior version of the Unemployment Insurance notice with this latest version as soon as possible. (The most recent poster includes a revised date of November 2025.) Failure to do so could lead to citations for posting violations if inspected. Posting violations could also be used against the employer during a UI claim proceeding.
