  • The Illinois Department of Labor has released an updated Victims’ Economic Security and Safety Act (VESSA) poster for 2026. The poster now clarifies that employees may not be discriminated against or retaliated against for using an employer-issued electronic device to document domestic violence, sexual violence, gender-based violence, or other violent crimes. Employers must also provide employees with access to any data stored on these devices that relates to the violence.

  • The Illinois Department of Labor has released an updated Your Rights Under Illinois Employment Laws poster, reflecting changes for 2026. The Violent Crime Victims’ Leave section now extends protections and accommodations to employees whose household members are victims. Additionally, the extra two weeks of leave under the Family Bereavement Leave Act (820 ILCS 154 et seq.) is now required only for employers with 50 or more employees, whereas it previously applied to employers of any size.

  • The Illinois Department of Labor has issued a new Equal Pay Act Pay Transparency Notice. Under the Pay Transparency amendment to the Equal Pay Act of 2003, employers with more than 15 employees must display this notice and include pay scale and benefit information in all job postings. Additionally, employers are required to provide employees with their current wage or salary range, along with a general description of benefits, at the time of hiring. These updates reflect changes required for businesses to remain compliant with federal regulations and the state of Illinois labor law posters.

Effective January 1, 2025, the minimum wage increases from $14.00 to $15.00 per hour, with a new youth wage set at $13.00 per hour. Employers of minors are now prohibited from scheduling minors for more than six days or 18 hours per week when school is in session, and no more than 40 hours per week (previously 48 hours) when school is not in session. The Unpaid Wages section now requires employers to provide employees with a paystub for every pay period. Additionally, the Equal Pay Act section mandates that job postings must include the pay and benefits for the position if the individual works in Illinois or, if working remotely, reports to a supervisor or work location in Illinois.

January 2024 - Minimum Wage

  • The Illinois Department of Labor has released an updated and redesigned "Your Rights Under Illinois Employment Laws" poster which includes the new 2024 minimum wages. Effective January 1st, 2024, the minimum wage increased from $13.00 to $14.00 per hour, with a youth wage of $12.00 per hour. Also effective January 1st, 2024, employees are entitled to Violent Crimes Leave for two additional weeks to the 12 weeks of unpaid leave for reasons relating to a family or household member’s death due to a crime of violence. The Paid Leave section has been added requiring employers to allow up to five days of paid leave for any reason, without retaliation.
